birdies on a branch

I wanted to share a DIY handmade piece I made for Lo when she was just a wee little thing. As we begin to switch her over to a "big girl room" I don't know if it will make the cut [without revisions, that is.] When I was pregnant with Lo and planning out her room, I wanted a space for her that was simple, colorful, and included a little bit of nature. One night while out for a walk in the neighborhood, Scott found a really pretty branch. I really liked the look of it. I knew that would be my nature piece in the nursery, I just didn't know how. I came across a sweet mama blogger who made this here. It was exactly what I was looking for: simplicity, color, and a little bit of nature. I was inspired. I just had to make one for our sweet baby girl. And I did.

What I liked most about this, was that it was a simple project for someone who doesn't really sew. I drew up a pattern for the birds and wings and cut them out of the felt. I sewed them by hand and stuffed them slightly with some cotton filling. I added button eyes and little craft bows for the girl birds. Then I hot glued them to the branch.

I'm thinking of re-doing it with a matured look, possibly using fabric, and making the birds bigger-- we'll see if time allows. Until then..we'll continue to enjoy it as is.
