this is seven

Lots of laughter
A space filled smile.
Hairband rainbow bracelet.
A new thrifted top that wont fit very long.
Shiny hoop earrings.
Highlights from the sun peeking through.
27 full days 2 half days left of school.
This is Seven...
And we are kind of loving it.

girl, i never loved one like you

“Motherhood is a choice you make everyday, to put someone else's happiness and well-being ahead of your own, to teach the hard lessons, to do the right thing even when you're not sure what the right thing is...and to forgive yourself, over and over again, for doing everything wrong." -- Donna Bell

Every day, and especially today, I am thankful for the greatest gift I'll ever receive:
sweetest pea;
...who is genuinely kind, and so very thoughtful.
...who is just enough silly, and full of optimism.
...who is as beautiful inside as she is out.

I am so proud of her and couldn't ask for anything more as her mama.

Today was a beautiful day. We spent the day with our favorite gals (and guys) sipping sweet ice cold cranberry drinks and stuffing our faces with the most delicious chipotle dinner.

Hoping all you mothers everywhere had a lovely day!

winter: in march

“It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.” --Charles Dickens

Every year I always feel a little nostalgic transitioning from winter into spring. As much as I've dreaded shorter days and colder temps, I find a sense of comfort in the slower pace of winter and the cozy times we spend huddled under blankets, upon blankets, reading together in bed.

Winter (especially like the one we've had this year) provides the most beautiful white backdrop for the sweetest photos of my peaty girl, and I'm convinced that everything looks prettier covered in snow. Correction: everything except the roads, especially when I have to drive on them. Ah, it's the worst.

Just when it feels as if indoors is the only option, we get surprised with a nice sunny day. Little things like that allow for winter to also be sweet and unexpected. Exploring the ground once the snow begins to melt is like a treat-- never knowing what will be uncovered, and then getting a chance to rediscover little bits of fall from months before.

We've been studying branches and get giddy at the site of buds, as a sure sign that spring is on it's way. Though they've been covered twice now since they've been visible, the snow isn't stopping them. We've may have even already ditched a layer or two, and have picked up a few new lighter pieces in anticipation of warmer days.

March is a beautiful month, full of opportunity. We're soaking it all up.

a trip to the emergency room

We had to take Logan to the ER last week for an x-ray. She was complaining of pain in her arm after a short fall. Knowing that it couldn't possibly have been injured from such a short gentle fall, I was reluctant to take her to get it checked. As the night went on and into the next morning, she was miserable because of it and not using that arm at all. The morning after, we didn't mention the arm once, but as we were getting dressed she began to complain. We left the house as planned and headed out to the field for Soccer Pictures. She still wasn't using the arm and was still complaining, so off we went to take her to the emergency room for her very first x-ray. She was such a gem while we waited. Of course right as we arrived, so did a stroke patient and a cardiac arrest patient, so our wait was extra long. But Lo was so, soo patient-- more so than I. The nurses spoiled her with stickers, juice, and crayons and coloring pages. Her x-ray came back negative for a fracture. That was all I needed to hear. Logan too it seemed. As the day went on she began to use her arm more and more. We even brought her to soccer the next day. As much as an annoyance it was to sit there and wait I'm glad we brought her and that all is well. Logan enjoyed being in the hospital and seeing how things work. She is so into anything medically related. Got an injury? She has to see it! If she spots someone with a cast, on crutches-- or with a band-aid even, she is so curious and full of questions. So a hospital is this girls people watching dream come true. And she is our dream come true-- our healthy, curious, and injury free dream come true.

logan says | | things i want to remember

--  "Wow! That's impressive..." Her reaction to a video where a woman was bouncing a soccer ball off her knees and head.

-- After telling her a movie was not appropriate for little kids, and that we wouldn't be watching it... in the cutest most confident voice, Lo responds: "I'm a bigger kid, I'm FOUR, are you kidding me?!"

-- "Ahh, damn commercials, right? Right mom, those damn commercials."

-- "Buzz Light-ner" So cute, I can't bring myself to correct her that it's actually Buzz Lightyear.

-- "Maybe you're right, mom."

-- "Three things I'm scared of: frogs, trolls, and foxes."

-- "Kindergarten!! I'm going to go to that soon. They won't let you in kindergarten until you are older. Like 5."

-- "It was great we went to this movie today. Thanks, mom." In the movie theater after it had ended. Usually after a movie she'll say: "That was cute, right?" She may have got that one from me.

-- One night before bed, Logan told me that she wants to get a Hello Kitty doctor medical center like the Doc McStuffins one she had received earlier in the day as a birthday present from Grammy and Pop. After telling her how silly and unnecessary that would be to have two of them, I reminded her that there are children in this world who don't even have one medical set, or any toys for that matter, and that she shouldn't be greedy; instead be grateful for what she does have. Her response was beautiful, and melted my mama heart. "I understand I have a lot of toys. Soooo we can look through mine and give them to other kids in the planet. Maybe tomorrow?"

-- "That's an honor." Said to one doll by the other.

FOUR

We officially have a four year old here!
A week and a half back Lo turned four.
She woke up to a balloon covered floor, a chocolate chip pancake breakfast, and a new sketch book.
Gam and Pop took us to lunch at one of our favorite local spots.
Then her and I spent the afternoon painting pottery.
We spent the afternoon drawing self-portraits and belting our hearts out to the Frozen soundtrack.
We finished our day with a delicious fish dinner and birthday cake.
Delivered to our door were gifts from an uncle in Florida and a present from Grammy and Pop.
Daddy had a full day in the city for work and school, but was home in time for books and rocky.
Lo was a happy girl.

and then there was a superhero

In a month from today, this little girl turns four. FOUR! I almost can't believe it, but then I can. It's been an awesome 4 years full of love and life. We'll be celebrating superhero style. Who knew?

christmas shops are good for the soul

Last year we visited a local farm/market to take photos by the outdoor evergreens for our Christmas cards; and since that visit was such a success, we decided to do a repeat. Unfortunately, this year we were too early-- no tress were out yet. Nope, not a single one. The cute little side shop was though, so we ventured in committed to not waste a stop. To say Logan was overwhelmed is an understatement. An ocean of red, green, and glitter swept her in and she just floated along taking everything in. We did manage to get a couple cute 'holiday' shots of her. She even got a little time outside in the playground area to swing. Logan had been indoors for a few days nursing a cough, so this trip out to reconnect with society and get some fresh air was just what she needed. Watching our sweet little girl, at such a happy time explore and heighten her excitement for the holidays was just what we needed. A win for all.

There is a pretty funny video on Scott's instagram I took of Lo on the swings in which I misjudged the length between my face and her legs, and get kicked.

My instagram is here.
