tricks & treats

Our Halloween was quite eventful. We saw family, trick-or-treated with cousin friends, and stayed out way past bedtime. 

Logan dressed up as her current favorite Disney princess queen, Elsa, from Frozen. You probably couldn't have guessed that one, huh? ;)

The middle of October she fell back in love with her, and it's been everything Elsa since. I should have known that it would be love at first sight the second this girl saw that blue dress. Blue has always been her favorite color-- anything and everything blue trumps all. Add to that those magical ice powers Elsa packs and I knew there was no convincing her otherwise. That's not to say I didn't try though. We tossed around costume ideas like: Annie, Zarina the Pirate Fairy, a Mermaid, and a superhero. But she was so persistent, and it is her Halloween after all,  so I caved. And because of that, we joined in the projected 2.1 million little girls across the country in their beautiful blue gowns, channeling their inner ice queens on Halloween night.  Grammy made Logan her costume with the prettiest fabric and the longest sparkly train. 

We had a great night and Lo looked and felt like the beautiful little princess that she is.
Scott and I went to a Halloween party dressed as a pirate and a nerd. 
Both were last minute costumes not using any pieces we had purchased for our original costume plans. 
Sometimes costumes made 5 minutes before walking out the door are the best ones. 

We ended the night sitting under blankets around the fire eating too many treats and a pizza dinner before bed.
A great way to send off our halloween. 

halloween cards

Every year since Logan could, we've made cards for special holidays and sent them out to friends, 
both big and little. 

Halloween cards have always been the most fun to make since we're able to get most creative. 

I found these super cute eye stickers and had to have them. 
I wasn't quite sure what we were going to do with them, but I knew we would figure something out. 

This is what we came up with, and I think they are great! 

We kept the cards pretty simple as far as detail goes because I kind of didn't want to take away from the muted tones and little  details in the eyes themselves. I love the messy eyebrows and crazy spooky varieties in the mouths. 

I find it so impactful to cut out special time to do things like this with her. 
I love exploring and finding new ways with helping her to create something unique to just her.

I love that she too, so little, can inspire me in such a big way.

costume ideas

Lately we have been thinking about how to dress Logan for Halloween. 

I love the do-it-yourself tutu costumes. I love the simplicity and cuteness of each costume.

Logan has a lot of input this year about her costume as she is now aware of what halloween is all about. However, her picks are extremely random. For example, her most recent costume wants were tinker bell, a ninja turtle, and cinderella. I was surprised she even knew what any of these were [except the ninja turtle-- her older cousin is a fan, so she sees them with him.]

Mostly, she is drawn to princess related costumes. She is very girly in that respect. I feel like those costumes are so very cliche for a little girl. I'd prefer she'd dress as something with a little more character, if you will.

With that being said, I am going to try to grant both of our preferences. Tutu: princess-y and ballerina-ish for her, and a character of substance: cowgirl, ghost, clown, candy corn, or snowman for me. Double win :]]

After all, come next year, I doubt I'll have any say at all.

Here are my top five-- all are fairly simple, super cute, and do-it-yourself.

I am loving all of these! Especially, the little cowgirl and clown.
